Editorial

Dear Readers,

We are starting into the new year with a major software release: onepoint PROJECTS 12 is our first major feature release after our transition to HTML5. Besides finally integrating strategic portfolio analysis and project prioritization into our PPM solution, the new version also introduces many other new features including connectivity to CMIS repositories and risk response planning. Release 12 moves also the administration user interface to HTML5 meaning that even the administrator user no longer needs a Java plug-in.

Regarding JIRA: I know that many of you are eagerly awaiting our new two-way integration with Atlassian JIRA. We intended to ship this feature already with the final release, but had to postpone it slightly due to a design problem that we unfortunately discovered quite late in the testing process. The problem is already fixed and we are currently re-testing everything, meaning that we will ship the two-way JIRA integration separately in an update to Release 12 in a few weeks time.

All in all 2013 was a great year, we signed on many interesting new customers, we hired very good new people and we concluded our technology transition to HTML5 on the client-side with our latest cloud release in fall. The previous year was also onepoint’s best year ever from a financial perspective. The new year 2014 will be about exciting new features and we will put the "human resource" much more into the spotlight, but more about this in the next Onepoint Report.

Best Regards,

Gerald Aquila, Founder & CEO

onepoint PROJECTS 12 Enterprise Server

onepoint PROJECTS 12 is the first major feature release after our transition to HTML5. With this new version we are also returning to our traditional cloud release schedule, i.e. we will release onepoint PROJECTS 12 Enterprise Cloud just a couple of weeks after the server version. In addition, the onepoint user interface is now 100% plug-in free, allowing the administrator user to even make administrative changes on mobile devices such as Apple’s iPad.

The major new features in onepoint PROJECTS 12 include:

  • Portfolio Analysis Option. The new Portfolio Analysis Option (PAO) allows to rate project ideas and running projects based on a central criteria catalog. You can then analyze these projects based on different scoring models that you can optionally define on the portfolio-level. The PAO provides three analysis tools: a classical tabular view, a highly-configurable, traditional bubble chart, and a new, unique visualization based on dynamic project symbols allowing you to monitor up to 12 project dimensions simultaneously.
  • Extended Risk Management. We extended the Risk Management Option (RMO) with various new features including a number of additional standard fields taken over from leading project and risk management standards (e.g. risk ID, risk owner, and a simple, qualitative rating model). In addition, the RMO now includes risk response planning: you can simply add responses below risks and optionally link them to activities of the project plan.
  • DMS/CMS Connectivity via CMIS. Project files such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF documents are often stored in company-wide document management, or content management systems. onepoint PROJECTS 12 includes the ability to transparently link the “Documents” area of projects to an external CMS/DMS, given that the system can be accessed via the widely-adopted Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) protocol. Examples for CMIS repositories include Alfresco and certain versions of Microsoft's SharePoint solution.
  • Enhanced User Interface Configurability. Based on end-user feedback, we further improved the configurability of onepoint’s 100% Web-based user interface. The two most visible enhancements are configurable traffic lights for the “Status” overview and the controlling cycle, as well as the ability to configure the visibility of the project planning and monitoring tools separately for each project type (e.g. for providing a very lightweight UI for small projects, but offering the “full monty” for complex, large projects).

In addition to the big features, we also included many small enhancements, for instance, a number of usability improvements for our interactive work breakdown structure (WBS) and a budget meter for cost planning. Expect even more usability enhancements in the next few months as we dig through our small features and improvements backlog for the upcoming updates to release 12.
