Onepoint Report Nr. 30 (Q3/2010) |
||
EditorialDear Readers, this is a very interesting and busy time. It is the first time since we started the business that we are delivering three releases with new features in a single year. We just released Onepoint Project 10.1 a few weeks ago featuring integrated agile PM, real-time JIRA connectivity and earned value management. And we are already working on Release 10.2 that will include a new printing engine, explicit IPMA-compliant dates controlling and more. As you might imagine, the "Solution" section focuses on what's new in release 10.1 - get more details about our new way of managing agile projects right beside formal projects and learn about how our JIRA connector works. Note that this was one of the major reasons for Gartner to add Onepoint to the 2010 magic quadrant for IT PPM. More information about the next release of Onepoint Project will be available in the Q4 edition of the Onepoint Report. We are also starting to deliver more information and news via social networks: You can find Onepoint Project on Facebook and we now also have an official @onepointproject Twitter account. Join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter in order to get the latest news about Onepoint Project. Last but not least, please don't forget that Onepoint will be present at the two major upcoming PM events in Austria and Germany: pma focus from Oct 13 to 14 in Vienna and PMI's new PM-Summit on Nov 15 in Munich. We hope to see many of you there and will be happy to show you Onepoint's new features live - of course including integrated agile PM and our new JIRA connector! Best Regards, Gerald Aquila, CEO SolutionOnepoint Project 10.1: Agile PM, JIRA, Earned ValueOnepoint's latest new product version includes many improvements, but the focus of this release is clearly on agile and dynamic project management. As such, the highlights of Onepoint Project 10.1 are of course the new optional modules we are introducing for the Enterprise Server/Cloud: the Agile Planning Option (APO) and the JIRA Connector Option (JCO).
The interesting thing about to two new options is that you can use them separately, but they also work great together. For instance, you can maintain your Scrum product backlog in Onepoint's new "Products" area or you can sync your stories, requirements and issues from Atlassian's JIRA in real-time. For the real-time part we have created a special JIRA 4 plug-in that is available today for on-premise installations. We are currently in the process of working with Atlassian on making sure that the "Onepoint Project Connector" plug-in will be also available for the hosted JIRA Studio version shortly. More features of the new release include earned value (EV) management including reporting extensions as well as effort and cost-based EV charts, the ability to quickly include ad hoc tasks into project plans and a number of extensions to IPMA project management (e.g., an extended project to do/checklist). You can find additional information on the new features in Onepoint Project 10.1 on the "What's New in 10.1" page on our website. In order to try out integrated agile PM or the JIRA connector please contact our sales team at info@onepoint-project.com or by calling us at +43 699 17 17 17 22. NewsSpotlightAgile ProjectsOnepoint Project 10.1 introduces the new project "kind" property denoting the basic kind of project you are creating. If you have the Agile Planning Option (APO) installed you have two kinds of projects available:
In Onepoint Project, agile Projects are based on the well-known Scrum framework. In contrast to a standard project, an agile project has a predefined structure: The first level is made up of agile phases, so called "sprints" and the second level contains the agile tasks that can be compared to activities or work packages in standard projects. Another difference to a standard project is the way how resource assignments are handled: if a task is not assigned to a specific resource or team member then all members of the project team can "take" the task from their task lists and start working on it. Onepoint's approach to agile PM has two distinct advantages to "pure" agile PM solutions:
Our suggestion: see for yourself how you can combine agile with standards-based project management and contact our sales team for a free trial of our new Agile Planning Option (APO) and don't forget: you can use agile planning also in combination with JIRA. Links
